MARTINA HOOGLAND IVANOW | UPCOMING EXHIBITION: EARLY READING | OPENING JANUARY 10

Martina Hoogland Ivanow documents the traces of touches and past tactile stimuli. For her series Early Reading, the artist worked with the method of thermography, a technique that allows the visualization of experiences, the human eye can’t capture. Hoogland Ivanow describes this as heat shadows. Pictures of childhood moments convey the feeling of a closeness that promises intimacy and protection. Images of demonstrations, the artist captured with a thermal camera, describe steps out of a confort zone. The act of activism appears in a tension of trust and fear. Not only is the camera of artistic importance, it’s also an instrument of monitoring.

Hoogland Ivanows video work Interbeing completes the exhibition at the Dorothée Nilsson Gallery. The subject of the black sun, the artist uses in the movie, draws parallels to the art of Minor White, a pioneer of the artistic work with thermographic techniques.

Opening: January 10, 6pm

Exhibition: January 11 – February 29, 2020
