In 1980, photographer Ralph Nyqvist and Gerry Johansson traveled to Paris while working for the magazine Aktuell Fotografi. During the trip, Johansson used a Widelux panoramic camera, a rare 35mm rotating-lens camera capable of capturing images without a central perspective. Traditionally used for landscapes, Johansson brought it to Paris to photograph street scenes. The result is a series of panoramic images that capture the life of Paris in 1980 in a way few cameras could achieve.
Gerry Johansson is a reserved but investigative photographer. In his grayscale images, composed down to the last detail, he visualizes a phenomenon that is often understood as an abstract, elusive concept: Culture.
